CSIRO Kick-Start
CSIRO Kick-Start
Kick-Start is matched funding for an early research project done with CSIRO. It is for a small Australian company, not for a student laptop and not for a free cloud account. CSIRO puts in $20,000 to $60,000 and the company puts in the same amount in cash.
You pay the same amount CSIRO contributes. The smallest combined project is $40,000. External services are capped at 20 percent of the project.
Who it is for
An Australian business with an ACN or ICN, registered for GST, that can pay the matching cash. Turnover and operating spend must be under $10 million, or the company must have been trading for less than three years. International companies and their Australian subsidiaries are not eligible.
What you get
A voucher that pays for CSIRO research on the project: a feasibility study, a prototype, a proof of concept, lab work, or data analysis. You can receive up to two vouchers. The second comes only after the first project is finished. The money is not paid to you as seed capital.
How to get it
- Read the eligibility page. An ABN alone is not the test. You need an ACN or ICN, GST registration, and the cash match.
- Write a project that CSIRO actually has the skills to do, with a result you could finish in 2 to 12 months.
- Submit an expression of interest. There is no single annual deadline.
- If you are accepted, the voucher pays CSIRO’s side of the work. Keep the matching cash ready. In-kind time does not count as the match.
Deadlines
There is no published closing date. Apply when your one-page description is ready. An empty calendar file would only pretend otherwise, so this page does not invent a reminder.

- This does not give you a login on Gadi, Setonix, or a GPU cloud.
- A sole trader without an ACN, and a researcher with no company, cannot use this path.
- The voucher is not a grant you can spend at AWS.
