Google Cloud research credits
Google Cloud research credits
Google gives Cloud credits to eligible academic research. Faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and nonprofit lab researchers can ask for up to USD $5,000. PhD students can ask for up to USD $1,000. Credits last up to a year and must be used on the project in the application.
The awarded credit is free. Anything beyond it, or anything outside the proposal, is billed.
Who it is for
Faculty, PhD students, and postdoctoral researchers at accredited higher-education institutions, and eligible nonprofit research institutions, in the countries Google lists. Undergraduate coursework is not what this form is for.
What you get
Google Cloud credit for computing, storage, and data analysis on the approved project. It can cover GPU virtual machines. It cannot be used for Maps products, support packages, commercial work, or crypto mining.
How to get it
- Check that your country is on the current list. The form says the program only runs in listed countries, with a way to register interest otherwise.
- Write a short proposal: the problem, the Google Cloud tools, the timeline, and a pricing-calculator link.
- Have a Google Cloud billing account ready. The form asks for the billing account id.
- Submit, then activate any award within 60 days of the project start date you named. Credits expire 365 days after they are issued, or when they are spent.
- If you are an undergraduate, or you have no university, use Kaggle or TRC instead of this form.
Deadlines
There is no published closing date. Apply when your one-page description is ready. An empty calendar file would only pretend otherwise, so this page does not invent a reminder.
Read this before you apply
- PhD awards are capped much lower than faculty awards. Plan the experiment to fit.
- Credits are not transferable and have no cash value.
- Australia’s presence on the country list should be confirmed on the live form.
Check before you rely on this
- Confirm Australia is on the live country list. The help page describes the award sizes, and the form enforces the country list.
