Flinders University
Flinders University in Adelaide runs Deep Thought, an on-campus high-performance computer for the university’s research community. It is a modest machine next to the national systems, which is exactly what you want for a first serious job.
Deep Thought
For the Flinders research community. The staff page names research staff. Students should ask before assuming an account.
Deep Thought has 17 compute nodes, 1,376 CPU cores, about 6.28 TB of memory, and four NVIDIA V100 GPUs. Jobs are lined up with Slurm, the queue system these machines use so everyone gets a share.
How to get it
- Read the Deep Thought page on the Flinders staff site.
- Ask the research computing contact for an account. Take the staff-only wording seriously if you are a coursework student.
- Use a CPU node for R, Python, and simulations. The four V100 GPUs are a small pool, so do not plan a large training run around them.
- If the job outgrows Deep Thought, request Nectar or look at NCMAS for the following year.
Nectar
This university is on the Nectar member list captured for local allocations.
