Griffith University

Griffith University recommends its own free high-performance computer, Gowonda, as the first stop for researchers and higher-degree students, before the national machines.

Gowonda

Free for Griffith researchers and higher-degree research students.

Gowonda is the local Griffith machine. The public getting-started page describes who it is for, and points at national systems when a job outgrows it. Hardware counts were not on that page, so this guide does not invent them.

How to get it

  1. Open Griffith’s high-performance computing page and follow the getting-started steps for Gowonda.
  2. Use it first if your code is simply too slow on a laptop.
  3. Ask the Griffith team whether your particular job needs a GPU node.
  4. Move to NCI or Pawsey only when the campus machine is genuinely too small. NCMAS for 2027 is already closed.

Nectar

This university is on the Nectar member list captured for local allocations.

Check before you rely on this

  • Gowonda’s current CPU and GPU counts were not published on the page used here.
  • The page describes Gowonda as suitable for GPUs among other needs, but it does not publish a GPU inventory. Treat GPU availability as something to ask the Griffith team.
