Monash University

Monash runs M3, the campus high-performance computer, previously called MASSIVE. It is built for large data, images, models, and GPU jobs. Monash also runs a Nectar cloud node if you would rather have a virtual machine than join a queue.

M3

A Monash research facility. Ask eResearch who can request an account. Do not assume every coursework login is included.

M3 is the third stage of MASSIVE. Monash eResearch describes it as the place for heavy data processing, visualisation, and models, including GPU work. A 2024 survey counted on the order of 14,000 CPU cores and several hundred GPUs at Monash, including H100 and A100 cards.

How to get it

  1. Start at the Monash eResearch computing page and ask for M3 access with your Monash account.
  2. Use M3 when the job is too big for a laptop and you are happy to submit it to a queue.
  3. Use the Monash Nectar cloud if you need an interactive virtual machine instead.
  4. Monash also helps researchers apply for time on NCI Gadi. The 2027 NCMAS round is closed.

Nectar

This university is on the Nectar member list captured for local allocations.

Check before you rely on this

  • The exact form used to request an M3 account was not verified. Start from the eResearch page.
  • GPU counts are from the 2024 survey and will have moved.
