New South Wales
University of New South Wales
Katana is UNSW’s shared computing cluster at Kensington. It is the campus machine you use before you try to win time on Gadi. It has both CPU nodes and a smaller set of GPU nodes.
Katana
A UNSW research cluster. Start from the Katana page to request access with your UNSW account.
UNSW describes Katana as more than 8,076 CPU cores, 171 nodes of which 26 are GPU nodes, and about 10 petabytes of disk. The GPU list on that page includes NVIDIA L40S, V100, A100, H200, and GH200. It is aimed at entry-level research computing and at jobs that will not fit on a desktop. It is not for sensitive data.
How to get it
- You need a UNSW account, usually called a zID.
- Read the Katana instrument page so you know you are asking for the shared cluster, not for a national allocation.
- Request access through UNSW Research Technology Services. This guide did not verify a single public form URL, so start from that Katana page.
- Ask for a GPU node only if the code uses one. R, Python data cleaning, and most simulations should stay on CPU nodes.
- When Katana is too small, UNSW staff and postgraduate students can look at Gadi and Pawsey. NCMAS 2027 is closed.
Nectar
This university is on the Nectar member list captured for local allocations.
