University of Queensland
Bunya is the University of Queensland’s current high-performance computer. Older UQ machines, including Awoonga, FlashLite, Tinaroo, and Wiener, have been turned off. If a supervisor names one of those, ask the Research Computing Centre for the Bunya equivalent.
Bunya
UQ’s central research computer. The Research Computing Centre handles access.
Bunya started in early 2021 and is expanded in stages so new hardware arrives without a full replacement. A 2024 survey described about 14,800 cores and a mix of NVIDIA and AMD GPUs. It is meant to cover most kinds of UQ research jobs, from many small tasks to larger GPU work.
How to get it
- Read the UQ high-performance computing page and the Bunya pages linked from it.
- Request access with your UQ account. If you are stuck, email rcc-support@uq.edu.au.
- Do not try to log into Awoonga, FlashLite, Tinaroo, or Wiener. They were decommissioned between 2022 and 2024.
- Use Bunya to prove the code runs, then consider NCMAS only if the next step needs Gadi.

Check before you rely on this
- GPU model mix is from the 2024 survey. Confirm current GPU types with the Research Computing Centre if your job needs a specific card.
